A fresh case was filed against the ousted prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, and 32 others on Friday night in Chattogram for the murder of a Higher Secondary Certificate examinee during the anti-quota student protests.

With this, six murder cases and an abduction case have been filed against Hasina and her aides with different police stations, including the one in Chattogram.


In addition to that, two complaints were filed with the International Crimes Tribunal over mass killings against Hasina, who resigned amid a student-led mass uprising and fled to India on August 5.

In the case filed with the Chandgaon police station, 32 local AL leaders and activists were also accused of the killing of Tanvir Siddique, 19, an HSC candidate from Ashekan Awlia College, alongside Hasina and Mohibul.

Besides, 40–50 unnamed people were also accused in the case.

Chandgaon police station officer-in-charge Jahidul Kabir confirmed the filing of the case by the victim’s uncle, Mohammad Parvez.

Juba League leader Babar Ali and two councillors of Chattogram City Corporation—Nur Mostafa Tinu and Esrarul Haque—were also accused in the case, he added.

According to the case statement, Tanvir joined the peaceful protests of the Student Movement Against Discrimination demanding quota reform in government jobs on July 18.

Following orders from Hasina and Mohibul, the other accused, along with 40–50 unidentified persons, attacked the protesting students with sharp weapons and firearms.

At that time, Tanvir was shot as they opened fire at the students, leaving Tanvir and others injured.

Later, Tanvir was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The plaintiff in the case,  Mohammad Parvez, said that two other students were killed during the protest at the same place as Tanvir.

‘I decided to file a case against the inhumane murder of three, including my nephew Tanvir,’ he said in the case statement.

Meanwhile, a murder case was filed against 119 people, including two former AL lawmakers, Muhammad Saiful Islam and Talukder Tauhid Jang Murad, in connection with the death of a Class-X student in Savar during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5.

Ashulia Thana AL president Faruk Hasan Tuhin, Savar municipal AL president Abdul Gani, Pathalia union parishad chairman Parvez Dewan, Ashulia UP chairman Sahabuddin Madbar, Yarpur UP chairman Suman Bhuiya, Savar upazila AL former general secretary Ali Haider, and Ashulia Thana Jubo League convener Kabir Hossain Sarkar, among others, were accused in the case, filed by the deceased’s cousin Sahid Hasan Mithu on Friday night.

In the case, many unnamed persons were also made accused.

According to the case statement, As-Sabur, 16, a student of Class-X, went to the Bypile area from Shimultala, where he used to live with his family, at about 11:00am on August 5.

After receiving a call at about 2:00pm, the plaintiff went to the Bypile crossing and found the victim’s mutilated body lying there.

The case statement also mentioned that the victim was beaten and shot dead by the cadres of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations.

The officer-in-charge of Ashulia police station, AFM Syed, said that they were working to arrest the accused soon.

A case was also lodged against 71 local unit leaders and activists of the Awami League on charges of vandalism, looting, and gunshots in Rajshahi on Saturday.

Rabiul Alam Milu, general secretary of the Boalia Thana unit of the BNP, lodged the case with the Bolalia police station, mentioning the names of 71 AL leaders and activists.

In his petition, Milu stated that the accused, equipped with lethal weapons, suddenly attacked his house in the Sasthitala area and vandalised and looted all the valuables.

He also mentioned that the attackers fired shotguns and looted 10 bharies of gold ornaments and Tk 3.25 lakh in cash after breaking down his wooden almirah.

Besides, the intruders threatened to kill him and his family members.

Masud Parvej, officer-in-charge of Boalia police station, said that they recorded the case and had already started drives to bring the accused to justice, but most of them remained absconding.

They would continue their drives until the accused were arrested, the OC added.

Earlier on Friday, a case was filed against Sheikh Hasina, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, and 99 others in Bogura for the murder of a teacher on August 4.

On August 14 and August 15, two cases were filed over mass killings against Hasina with the investigation agency of the ICT, accusing her, her cabinet members, Awami League leaders, and top police officers of mass killings and crimes against humanity during the student-led mass uprising between July 15 and August 5.

On August 15, two murder cases were filed against Hasina and others over the killing of a 12-year-old madrassah student and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in court. The court transferred the cases to Mohammadpur and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police stations for investigation.

On August 14, Hasina and her aides were sued in a case filed with the CMM court in Dhaka over the killing of an 18-year-old student of Dhaka Model Degree College in the capital’s Kafrul area. The court asked Kafrul police station to take the case into cognisance and investigate.

On the same day, Supreme Court lawyer Sohel Rana filed an abduction case against Hasina and four others on charges of abducting and holding him hostage for six months in 2015. Uttara Police are investigating the case.

On August 13, Hasina, along with six others, were sued on charges of killing grocery shop owner Abu Sayed in the capital’s Mohammadpur on July 19. The case is under investigation by the Mohammadpur police station.Â
