A Dhaka Court on Tuesday remanded former social welfare minister Dipu Moni in police custody for four days and former deputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan for five days in a murder case filed with Mohammadpur police station.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Shohag Uddin passed the order after hearing the remand plea as police sought ten-day remand for both former ministers, confirmed the court bench assistant Jashim Uddin.聽


The Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday evening arrested Awami League joint general secretary Dipu Moni in Baridhara DOHS area in the capital.

Dipu Moni also served as the foreign minister and education minister of the ousted Sheikh Hasina government.

Dipu and her family members are accused of lifting sands from Meghna and Padma rivers illegally, grabbing lands of people and some other corruptions.

On Monday night, police also arrested Arif Khan Joy in the capital.

Joy, also a former National Football team captain,聽 was elected lawmaker from Netrokona-2 constituency in 2014 general elections and appointed as a deputy minister.

Later, he did not get nomination from Awami League in the last two general elections in 2018 and 2024.

On August 13, deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and former law minister Anisul Huq were arrested at Dhaka River Port at Sadarghat.

Former state minister for posts, telecommunications and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku and Dhaka University Chhatra League general secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat were arrested on August 14 after the fall of AL government amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5.
