A murder case has been filed against 350 people, including Awami League president and ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former minister Obaidul Quader and former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud for killing auto-rickshaw driver Mehdi, 25, during the anti-discrimination student movement.
The wife of the deceased, Jasmin Akhter, resident of Nahunhat Sheikhpara area under Sadar upazila filed a murder case as the plaintiff in the Chief Judicial Magistrate鈥檚 Court of the district today.
Jasmin Akhter said that on August 5 her husband Mehedi went to the town to join the student movement. Mehdi was shot and he died there.
Jasmin wants justice for this murder.
The case mentioned that the murder took place at the order of Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and Hasan Mahmud and other accused in the case, including two former Awami League lawmakers of the district Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Samsul Alam Dudu, district Awami League president Arifur Rahman Rocket and its General Secretary Zakir Hossain Mandal.
The magistrate of the court took cognizance of the case and directed the Joypurhat Police Station to register it as a statement.
The former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, former road transport and bridge minister Obaidul Quader and general secretary of AL, have been mentioned as order giver in the case.
Apart from this, the case also included 350 more unidentified persons including leaders, activists, public representatives of the district, upazila Awami League and other organizations have been accused.
The other accused of the case are- former lawmaker for Joypurhat-2 constituency and former whip of Jatiya Sangsad Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan, former lawmaker for Joypurhat-1 constituency Samsul Alam Dudu, district Awami League president Arifur Rahman Rocket, general secretary Zakir Hossain Mondal, welfare affairs secretary Mahmud Hossain Himu, district chhatra league president Zakaria Hossain Raza, general secretary Abu Bakkar Siddique Reza, district Awami League joint general secretary Golam Mahfuz Sisir Chowdhury, district Awami League organising secretaries Suman Kumar Saha and Shekhar Majumdar, vice-president Zahidul Alam Benu, district Jubo League president Russell Dewan, district Swechasebak League president Morshed Ali, general secretary and Zila Parishad member Ramzan Ali, district Awami League publicity and publication secretary Masud Reza, general secretary Sabbir, sadar upazila Jubo League president and sadar upazila parishad former vice-chairman Ashok Kumar Thakur and Zila Parishad member Chandan.
