Former chief of news of Ekattor Television Shakil Ahmed and his wife and the TV channel鈥檚 former principal correspondent and presenter Farzana Rupa were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka as they allegedly tried to leave the country.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Obaidur Rahman said that immigration officials detained them and handed them over to the detective branch.
They were arrested in a murder case filed with the Uttara East police station, he said, adding that the couple was currently in DB custody.
Airport officials said that they were scheduled to depart from Dhaka airport on Wednesday by a Turkish Airlines flight to Paris in France via Istanbul.
An official of the special branch told 抖阴精品 that Shakil and Rupa were not given departure clearance as they were wanted in cases.
On August 8, Ekattor Television dismissed its head of news Shakil Ahmed and principal correspondent Farzana Rupa.
