The Bangladesh national football team will leave home for Bhutan on August 30 to play two FIFA international friendly matches against Bhutan on September 5 and 8, confirmed the Bangladesh Football Federation through a media release on Wednesday.
BFF earlier planned to host Bhutan in September鈥檚 FIFA window, but they had to change their decision after the Bhutan Football Federation expressed their concern about Bangladesh鈥檚 current political situation following a mass uprising that ousted the Awami League-led government on August 5.
BFF decided to tour Bhutan with an aim to improve their FIFA rankings that would help them secure Pot-3 instead of Pot-4 in the upcoming draw for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The draw for the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers is scheduled to be held on December 19, 2024.
