
Home ministry in a circular on Friday asked the police not to deny or delay recording cases, general diaries and first information reports as the ministry came to know of reports of alleged incidents from mass media and other sources.
Immediate legal actions should be taken; no delays in the investigation and examination process should happen, according to the circular of the Public Security Division under home ministry signed by its senior secretary Mohammad Abdul Momen.
The circular also said that Bangladesh Police was an important institution for ensuring public security.
It would reclaim its reputation by swiftly investigating complaints filed by the people and taking legal action.
After a daylong protest at New Market police station, a murder case was filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina at midnight past Tuesday for killing photographer Tahir Zaman Priyo in Central Road area in Dhaka on July 19 during the student protests for reformation of quotas in government jobs.
The victim鈥檚 mother, Samsi Ara Zaman Koli, filed the case naming. Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former inspector general of police Choudhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna zone former deputy commissioner Ashraf Imam, former additional deputy commissioner Hafiz AL Asad and former New Market police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam were named accused in the case.
The victim鈥檚 mother alleged that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner for New Market Zone Refatul Islam intimidated and threatened them for not filing the case with the police station.
The victim鈥檚 family finally succeeded in filing the case after protesting for more than 12 hours.
