
The Teacher-Student Center of Dhaka University on Friday turned into a massive relief collection camp as thousands of people from all walk of life came here to donate necessary items for flood victims in the southeastern region of the Country.Â
In the second day of the relief collection programme of the Student Movement Against Discrimination Student Movement, people showed huge response by donating all the necessary items.
Just like the first day of the relief collection programme, from the morning onward people from the different parts of the capital rushed to Dhaka University TSC with drinking water, saline, baby food, life jackets, and other necessary items.
Mahfuz Sharif, a donor who came to the TSC from Badda to donate necessary medicine, said, ‘Medicines for diseases such as fever and cough will be important for them. So I am donating Napa and other medicines.’
Another donor Jahangir Alam who came from Lalbag said that he donated as per his ability.
‘I gave a bag of puffed rice and some bottles of water. If I could afford more, I would have donated much,’ he said.Â
The volunteers faced a tough time to maintain discipline as the TSC saw a huge crowd on the day.
The volunteer students were divided into groups for clearing traffic, receiving money, and relief materials.
Mohammad Sabirul Islam, a Dhaka university student who was voluntarily managing traffic at the main gate of the TSC, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were facing a huge crowd today as people all had come here to donate necessary items, including dry food, and medicine.Â
‘The crowd today is much larger than yesterday. We are struggling to maintain order,’ he said.Â
Visiting the TSC area, it was seen that the games room and the TSC cafeteria were filled with relief materials.
Students were also seen mixing and packaging goods for final deliveries.
They were seen collecting money through the temporary money booth sitting beside the gate of the TSC.
More than Tk 86 lakh had been collected from only TSC fund collection booth till 5:00pm on Friday, said Smriti Afroz Sumi, a volunteer from the money collection booth.
The students of Dhaka University on Friday also collected money from different areas, including Gulistan, Mohammadpur, Nilkhet, Gulshan, Dhanmondi and other parts of the capital being divided into groups.Â
A concert, meanwhile, was also arranged on Friday evening on the premises of Anti-terrorism Raju sculpture for crowdfunding.Â
