Adviser for Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Wednesday urged united efforts to make Saint Martins Island, Kuakata and Sundarbans plastic and polythene-free.

Initiatives will be taken to make the country鈥檚 solo coral island Saint Martins Island, seaside Kuakata and mangrove forest Sundarbans plastic and polythene-free areas on an urgent basis, said Rizwana.

The adviser mentioned that the participation of non-governmental organisations and the youth was crucial alongside the government for these efforts.

The clean environment can be achieved only through collective efforts, stated Rizwana during a meeting with environmental organisations at her office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Representatives from the Deep Ecology and Snake Conservation Foundation and the WildTeam were present at the meeting, said a press release.

Responding to demands of the organisations, Rizwana said that proposal to increase the number of wildlife conservation officers in the forest department鈥檚 organogram would be considered for the conservation and protection of wildlife.

She also said that initiatives would be taken to manage the country鈥檚 safari parks properly and to strengthen the wildlife crime control unit.
