The fire that broke out at Gazi Auto Tyres Factory in the Rupganj area of Narayanganj on Sunday night was yet to be completely doused after nearly three days.

As of 9:00pm on Wednesday, firefighters were continuing their efforts to fully douse the blaze, the fire service said, adding that the fire was brought under control at 7:00pm on Monday.

The fire service officials said that the building was searched from outside using drones if there was any victim.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer Talha Bin Zasim said that it was not possible to enter the building as there was still significant heat inside it.

No victim, however, has yet been identified inside the building, he said, adding that representatives of district and upazila administrations were also present at the spot during the search.

‘A technical committee will be formed by the district administration regarding physical search. Rescue work will be conducted based on the committee’s report on the load capacity of the building,’ added the fire official.

Hundreds of people broke into the factory in the Rupshi area on Sunday afternoon, hours after Gazi Group chairman and former Awami League lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi was arrested and, later put on six-day remand.

Later, at about 9:00pm, unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to the ground floor of the factory, triggering the massive blaze.

The fire service station officer Talha Bin Zasim said that from the spot they so far rescued 14 people, all of whom were saved on August 25.

The cause and extent of damages caused by the fire could not be known immediately, he said.
