Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe said on Thursday that he is looking forward to discussing his future with the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s new management team.
Hathurusinghe addressed a pre-match press conference in Rawalpindi following the cancellation of the day’s practice session due to continuous rain.
The first issue the Sri Lankan had to answer during the press conference was about the new BCB president Faruque Ahmed’s recent assertion that he had not changed his mind about removing Hathurusinghe from his position.
Before being elected president of the BCB, Faruque, who also worked as chief selector during Hathurusinghe’s first term with the Tigers, aired his displeasure with Hathurusinghe in the media multiple times and stated that if he were to take over, he would fire the Sri Lankan coach.
On Thursday, Hathurusinghe was questioned by a Pakistani journalist if the forthcoming Test could be his final assignment as Bangladesh’s head coach.
‘I understand when new leadership comes in, they have their views. But I’m looking forward
to go and get a chance to speak to them,’ said Hathurusinghe.
‘My job is to prepare the team the best I can. Whatever hard work we have done in the last few months, it will be no different now. And that’s our focus for the next game,’ he added.
Hathurusinghe, who took the Bangladesh role for the second time in 2023, has a contract with the BCB until the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February-March next year.
Bangladesh are all set to take on the hosts in the second Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today although there is rain in the forecast on the opening day of the contest.
The Tigers are currently leading the series 1-0 after they outplayed the hosts by 10 wickets in the opening Test in Rawalpindi last week.
