Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Professor AZM Zahid Hossain said on Friday that people from all walks of life, including party leaders and activists, responded greatly to the party’s relief fund for the help of flood victims.
‘The relief items worth over Tk 10 crore, including Tk 2.5 crore in cash, have been collected and distributed to the flood victims in the affected areas in the past five days,’ he said at a press conference at the BNP’s Naya Paltan office in Dhaka.
Zahid, also convener of the BNP’s relief collection committee in the Southeast region, said that in addition to the central relief assistance centre, the leaders and activists of different district units of the BNP continued to provide relief for the past 10 days.
‘Flood water has already started receding, as a result of which the disease will increase in the flood-affected areas,’ he said, adding, ‘Our doctors and various pharmaceutical companies are distributing medicines in those areas.’
The BNP leader also said that the party would work for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected people.
