Human right activists and professionals on Friday at a discussion urged the authority to take steps to stop enforced disappearances by the law enforcers in the country.

The Council Against Injustice organised the discussion at the National Press Club in the capital to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.


Chaired by convener of the organisation Muhammad Sayeed, human right activist Sarwar Hossain demanded to take steps to stop enforce disappearances by the law enforces.

On behalf of the CAI, Muhammad Syed placed 12-point recommendations to stop enforced disappearances, including formation of a high powered committee to monitor the activities of the Rapid Action Battalion, Anti-terrorism Unit and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, so that the organisations could not perform any illegal activities.

Publication of a White Paper on the enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings happened during the Awami League-led Sheikh Hasina government and publication of the list of people who faced enforced disappearances during that regime was also demanded.

It also demanded the cancellation of the cases field against the people, and exemplary punishments of the responsible for the enforce disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

Writer and poet Muhib Khan, journalist Sayed Mahfuz, CAI central leader Sakib Bin Kamal, among others, spoke at the programme.
