
A suspected extortionist was lynched in a mob attack in Bogura鈥檚 Kahalu upazila Friday night.
The deceased, Rakib Hossain, 24, is the son of Samsul Haque of Parishesh Purbapara of Jamgram union in the upazila.
Locals said that a group of eight to 10 suspected extortionists went to the house of Fonindranath at about 10:00pm and demanded Tk 10 lakh.
When Fonindranath expressed his inability to pay the money, they started beating him. When local resident Sakha came forward to save Fonindranath, they also beat and stabbed him and fired shots, causing panic. When villagers resisted, the group, except Rakib, fled the spot.
Later, villagers detained Rakib and gave a good thrashing, resulting in him dying on the spot, said Shahinuzzaman Shahin, officer-in-charge of Kahalu police station.
Police recovered the body from the spot and sent to morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
