Young Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has been picked up by Big Bash outfit Hobart Hurricanes for the 14th edition of the franchise T20 league.

Rishad was the only Bangladesh player to have been picked up by any franchise of BBL this season.

A total of 10 Bangladesh players—nine male and one female put their name for the drafts, which took place on Sunday.

Rishad becomes only the second Bangladeshi player after all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to get a call-up from Australia’s T20 tournament.

Shakib featured for Adelaide Strikers during the 2013-14 season and for Melbourne Renegades the following season. Shakib didn’t get the call from the draft; he was later included as a replacement.

Rishad shot to limelight following his excellent performance in this year’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA where he finished with 14 wickets. His big hitting prowess is another thing that made him a proper T20 material.

Announcing Rishad’s inclusion in an X post, Hobart said, ‘A Bangladeshi Tiger has joined the Hurricanes! Welcome to Rishad Hossain, an exciting young leg spinner who will take the BBL14 by storm!’

Rishad’s participation in the BBL is not confirmed yet, as the schedule will clash with the Bangladesh national team’s tour of the West Indies as well as the Bangladesh Premier League.

The BBL is scheduled to kick-off on December 15.
