Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday named leg-spinner Rabeya Khan as the captain of the Bangladesh A team for their tour to Sri Lanka, where they will feature in two one-day and five Twenty20 matches.

Though Rabeya will lead the team, she will be joined by national team captain Nigar Sultana Joty, vice-captain Nahida Akter, and several other national team members who are likely to be included in the upcoming World Cup squad, which will be held in UAE from October 3 to 20.

BCB’s women’s wing chief selector, Sazzad Ahmed, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that this tour will undoubtedly be an excellent preparation for the World Cup.

‘As there is no series before the World Cup, this is our only option,’ said Sazzad.

According to Sazzad, Rabeya, who has so far represented her country in 13 ODIs and 29 T20Is, is considered a future prospect to lead the national team.

Top order batter Shamima Sultana is back in the side after missing out since December last year due to illness. Veteran all-rounder Rumana Ahmed failed to make the cut.

The two limited-over matches will be played on September 8 and 10, respectively, followed by the five-match T20 series, which will be played on September 12, 13, 15, 17, and 19.

Colombo will host all of the matches.
