Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that the party would face all kinds of challenges in the process of establishing democracy.

‘We [BNP] will work to establish democracy in Bangladesh, establish open market economy and build a prosperous Bangladesh by facing all the challenges,’ Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters after paying respects at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka on the occasion of the 46th founding anniversary of the party.


‘Now the main task of BNP is to implement the ideals that martyred

President Ziaur Rahman had dreamed and established. Democracy, established by Khaleda Zia, should be re-established,’ he said.

Speaking about taking an oath to build a new Bangladesh in a ‘free environment’, he said, ‘Today, the party acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who is dreaming of a new Bangladesh, working himself to build it, we have pledged and taken an oath to build that Bangladesh.’

He said that BNP has been struggling for 15 years for the freedom and it achieved now in 2024.

Of the missing persons in the last 15 years, most are BNP leaders and activists while more than 2,000 leaders and activist have been killed, false cases have been filed against 60 lakh leaders and activists just to fight for democracy, he said.

‘We remember them in this foundation day of the party today. Today we are able to celebrate this day in a free atmosphere with the students and people. We believe that BNP has always given the right leadership, will do the right politics in the days to come and we will move ahead with the people,’ he said.

BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Nazrul Islam Khan, vice-chairmen Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Ahmed Azam Khan, chairperson’s advisory council members Aman Ullah Aman and Abdus Salam and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi participated in this tribute ceremony, among others.
