
Most of the cultural institutions under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs have remained closed since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5 amid the student-led mass uprising.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s auditoriums, galleries and training activities remain closed as the academy premises has been being used as a temporary camp of the Bangladesh Army.
The cultural affairs ministry secretary Khalil Ahmed said that the government had deployed army personnel from July 20, and they had been using the BSA premises as their temporary camp.
Khalil mentioned that due to the reason, the activities of the academy had been closed, adding, ‘But the activities of the BSA district branches and other institutions under the ministry are being run as usual.’
Only the staff of the BSA can enter the premises of the academy for administrative works.
Public relations officer of the BSA, Sabina Yesmin, said that a total of 2500 people were studying in 22 courses of 18 subjects under the BSA.
‘A huge number people are involved in the academy’s district branches training programme. But, a few branches are running the training activities as the director general of the BSA remained vacant,’ added Sabina, hoping that after joining the DG, the academy could begin its regular work.
Bangladesh National Museum began their regular activities on August 25, informed the museum’s director general Md Kamruzzaman.
He said that from August 5, they had closed the museum’s activities for the visitors for its safety. ‘We began the activities on August 25,’ said Kamruzzaman, adding that the museum had not faced any damage after the fall of the Hasina-led government.    Â
Under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Bangladesh Shishu Academy has also closed their regular activities, including the training activities and programmes from August 5.
Drama instructor of the academy, Moniruzzaman Ripon, said that the central office, auditorium and premise of the academy were attacked by miscreants on August 5.
The academy chairman Lucky Enam and director general Anjir Liton resigned on August 12, and after being appointed as the DG of the academy on August 21, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan began only administrative activities.
‘He is now repairing the damage of the academy’s buildings,’ Moniruzzaman Ripon mentioned, adding that the activities of academy’s districts brunch were being run as usual.
