The government has taken decision to go back to the examination-based assessment system from the current year as per the previous curriculum.

Based on the national curriculum of 2012, the amended and refined textbooks would be printed for the students from Class V to Class X in 2025.

From next year, also the three division-based system will be reintroduced in Classes of IX and X.

A totally refined curriculum will be implemented from 2026.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry on Monday issued a circular in this regard.

With all these decisions, the government is virtually scrapping the newest national curriculum of 2022.

The Monday circular read that the national curriculum 2022 is appeared to be not implementable following some practical problems including lack of teachers’ preparation, vague and negative notion against the learning contents and assessment system and lack of institutional capacities.

The circular gave six directives.

The assessment system will be as per the national curriculum of 2012 as much as possible.

The amended and refined textbooks of Classes of IV and V will be published keeping continuity with the textbooks of pre-primary, ethnic minority and Classes of I to III.

In the remaining time in this year, the existing textbooks of Classes of VI to IX will be used.

But the assessment system will be amended and refined for the students of Classes of VI to IX. The outline of the new assessment system will be sent to the educational institutions soon.

For the students, who will be upgraded to Class X next year, will be divided into science, humanities and business studies divisions and will be provided with the amended and refined textbooks based on 2012 curriculum.

For these students, their textbooks will be prepared with shortened syllabuses for all three divisions to complete these within one year and then take the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations.

As for the students who will be upgraded to Class IX next year will get amended and refined textbooks for all three divisions based on 2012 curriculum.

These students will sit for the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2027 after completing syllabuses of Classes of IX and X.

Lastly, a refined curriculum will be implemented from 2026 after finalising it next year with the cooperation of the educationists, curriculum experts, other experts, education officials, representatives of the civil society and guardians.

However, as much as amended and refined textbooks will be printed in 2025.

The government in 2023, started implementing the new national curriculum in the Classes of I, VI and VII which was scheduled to be implemented by 2027 up to Class XII.

This year the curriculum was implemented in the Classes of II, III, VIII and IX. In Class IX, the division system was cancelled from this year as per the new curriculum.

Since the beginning, huge criticism erupted against the new curriculum for its assessment system, learning contents, and lack of preparation of the teachers and institutions.
