
The doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday announced that they would resume outpatient healthcare from Tuesday, after two days of work stoppage protesting at the attacks on fellow physicians.
DMCH resident surgeon Abdul Ahad came up with the announcement in the afternoon.
On Saturday, outsiders attacked on duty doctors and staffers following death of a road traffic victim in the hospital. Doctors and nurses called the complete shutdown since Sunday demanding their safety at workplace.
Though doctors at DMCH announced countrywide strike but no impact of the declaration was seen at other hospitals.
On Sunday, after a meeting with health advisor Nurjahan Begum, the protesting doctors declared to resume emergency services only.
Again, the doctors announced to resume outdoor services from Tuesday after two days of service suspension at the largest hospital of the country.
The protesting doctors urged that authority to meet their demands as soon as possible. The demands include arrest of all the accused attackers, ensure safety for doctors, special police for health sector and to enact health protection law.
Many people in the morning went to DMCH for treatment, but returned from the hospital without getting any services.
One of them, Lima Khatun, who came to Dhaka from Noakhali for his brother's treatment, went to DMCH on Sunday and again on Monday morning. But she was frustrated for not getting any service.
Three-year-old Asha Yamin was brought to the hospital鈥檚 outdoor with breathing problem from the capital鈥檚 Kamrangirchar. Getting no doctor there her parents were asked to take service from emergency which was overcrowded.
DMCH office assistant Amir Hossain filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station over the attack on the doctors at DMCH accusing four named and 50 unnamed people.
The accused attacked on hospital staff and vandalised furniture following a death of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology civil engineering student Ahsanul Islam Dipto.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police media cell informed that one of the accused Sanjoy Pal Joy was arrested from Gaibandha on Monday.
