A case was filed against five Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on Sunday with the Gulshan police station for the allegations of collecting tolls using the name of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s youth wing Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal.

Five BCL activists, including BCL Gulshan unit leader Sabbir, went to Mustafizur Rahman Caesar’s house on road-62 at Gulshan-2 at the midnight past Saturday, said Juba Dal sources.

Juba Dal Dhaka north city unit convener Sharif Uddin Jewel said that BNP central leader Azizul Bari Helal and Juba Dal general secretary Nurul Islam Nayon informed him over phone that the group demanded toll money to Caesar introducing selves as Juba Dal member.

‘I called Juba Dal leaders and activists in Gulshan and Banani area to know about the matter. They went to the spot and found the extortions. At one point, they introduced themselves as coordinators of the Students Movement Against Discrimination,’ he said.

Jewel said that when the Juba Dal leaders searched their phones, they found Sabbir as BCL leader in the Gulshan area involved in extortion.

Gulshan police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Touhid Uddin said that a case was filed against the five with the police station on extortion charges.

‘We sent them to the court on Sunday,’ he added.

Gulshan police station general recording officer Alam Hossain said that they were freed on bail.
