The price of food items at the Teacher Student Centre of Jagannath University have been revised downward significantly. Â
On Wednesday, the price adjustments were made, following dialogue between the students of the university and the vendors, according to representatives from the TSC reform committee.
Significant changes have been taken to menu such as paratha is nowTk 6 each; dal or bhaji at Tk 10; fried egg at Tk 20; rice, fish, and lentils at Tk 50 Tk; and, rice, chicken, and lentils at Tk 50.
Sohag Hossain, an Islamic studies department student and a member of the TSC reform committee, said that they had set the prices after discussions with the vendors.
‘We want to ensure that students have access to quality food at reasonable prices. The vendors have agreed to this new pricing and committed to maintaining the quality of the food,’ he added.
On Monday, five development and reform committees were formed at the university. The TSC and Cafeteria Reform Committee has taken the initiative to the reduction in food prices at the TSC.
Earlier, a group of students unilaterally reduced prices without consulting with the vendors and attempted to change the TSC shops, leading to a temporary closure by the vendors in protest.
Some students were also accused of vandalising a nearby hotel in Arambagh, which later brought under control by the JnU Reform Committee through the establishment of proper communication with the vendors.
