In a notice sent to the media on Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police requested city residents to help them to recover weapons looted during the unrest following the fall of Awami League government.

The notice says that a joint operation was started to recover illegal firearms and ammunition.

Weapons, licenses for which expired on Wednesday, and all other weapons which were looted from police stations and offices of other law enforcement agencies during and after the anti-quota protests, will be considered as illegal arms, the notice says.

DMP in its notice has urged everyone to inform the police immediately if they have any information about illegal firearms.

‘DMP is committed to make the city free from unregistered weapons,’ the notice says.

‘If you have any information about illegal weapons, you can call the National Emergency Service 999 or inform the nearest police station. You can inform through the Facebook page of DMP (https://www.facebook.com/dmpdhaka) or our Whatsapp numbers — 01320-037870, 01320-037871,’ the notice reads.
