Eight people, including three of a family, were killed in separate road accidents in Cumilla, Rajshahi, Naogaon and Gaibandha between Thursday night and Friday.

In Cumilla, four people, including three of a family, were killed in a fatal road accident on Dhaka-Chattgraom highway in Chauddagram end of the district early Friday, reported United News of Bangladesh.


Dewan Nazmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram police station, confirmed the casualties, saying that a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of the Star Line Paribhan crashed into a microbus from behind on the same lane in Nunkora area on the highway at about 6:00am.

The impact of the incident left three killed on the spot and one died to his injuries on way to Chauddagram upazila health complex, the OC said, adding that there were four people, including driver, inside the vehicle and all of them died.聽

The bodies were taken to Mia Bazar highway police station but the identities of the victims could not be known immediately, the police official added.

Two persons, including a sexagenarian, were killed in two separate road accidents in Rajshahi and Naogaon on Friday, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

Police sources said that Lutfor Rahman Mollah, 70, a resident of Alenga village under Manda upazila in Naogaon, was killed on the spot when he was dashed by a tractor in Panjarbhanga area under the same upazila at noon.

Mozammel Haque, OC of Manda police station, said that Lutfor was going to attend a marriage ceremony at a nearby village riding on a motorbike.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

In another incident, an area manager of BRAC Bank Mrinmoy Barma, 35, was killed on the spot when a drum truck knocked his motorbike down in Nandanhat area on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway under Mohanpur upazila in the district at noon.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Soheb Khan, OC of Mohanpur police station, said that they seized the two vehicles from the spot.

Two separate cases were recorded with the police stations concerned in these connections.

In Gaibandha, a man and his son-in-law died in a road accident on Bogura-Rangpur highway in Gobindaganj upazila Thursday night, according to a UNB report.

The deceased are Jahidul Islam, 40, and Shamim Mandal, 25. They were residents of Gobindanagar and Komarpur villages respectively under the upazila.

Gobindaganj police station OC Shariful Islam confirmed the matter.

Witnesses said that the accident occurred at about 11:00pm when the duo fell off a motorbike while crossing a lane on the highway in front of a fire service and civil defence station, leaving them critically injured.

Later, they were rushed to upazila health complex where doctors declared them dead upon arrival, they said.

The bodies were handed over to the families of the deceased after completing legal procedures, said OC Shariful.
