The Industriall Bangladesh Council at a press conference on Saturday said that outsiders provoked readymade garment workers to start the recent unrest as none of their member organisations supported demonstration at this time.
Local youth gangs, garment waste traders and unemployed people instigated workers to take to the streets, it said at the event organised at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital.
Garment workers in Savar, Ashulia and Gazipur started demonstrations in the past week to press home their demands.
The demonstrations compelled many factories to suspend their production.
IBC president AM Nazim Uddin said that mainly the conflict arose to grab garment waste business by local powerful people as after the fall of the Awami League government the total power structure changed.
‘IBC supports the legitimate bargaining process, not unrest,’ he said.
IBC general secretary Shahidullah Badal requested all the workers to join their duty and asked the government to take punitive action against the miscreants.
The IBC is affiliated with the IndustriALL Global Union.
Presently, 18 trade unions are with the IBC.
The IBC also presented a 10-point demand, including continuing production in all factories, not terminating any workers from job, implementation of the minimum wage strictly, and withdrawal of the cases filed against garment workers and leaders in past years following unrest.
IBC leaders including ZM Kamrul Anam, Amirul Haque Amin, Salauddin Shapon, Babul Akter and China Rahman were present at the press conference.
