The Doctors Association of Bangladesh on Saturday demanded cancellation of appointments of supporters of the ‘fascist regime’, including Mohammed Robed Amin, the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services.

The pro-BNP doctors association held a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital where they placed a seven-point demand.

At the conference, DAB president Harun Al Rashid said that supporters of the ousted fascist Awami League government were promoted despite allegations of corruption and nepotism against them.

He said that this government came to power in return for huge sacrifice of the people of the country. If any part of the government tries to rehabilitate the supporters of dictator, DAB will not allow it, he added.

Mohammed Robed Amin is one of the supporters of the ousted fascist regime, he said, adding that he was appointed as the DG of the DGHS on August 18.

Md Abdus Salam, secretary general of the DAB, read out a written statement of their demands.

The demands included making a list of physicians, who refused to treat students injured during student-led mass protests at all government and private health centres, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and cancellation of their registration with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, promotion of those doctors and staff who were victims of political discrimination, and posting those doctors who were victims during the protests to various institutions including medical colleges, universities, institutes, nursing colleges.

The association also demanded publishing a white paper to assess the extent of corruption in the health sector in the past 16 years and bringing those responsible to justice.

Nearly a hundred physicians were present at the event, among others.
