
A court on Sunday sent to jail former shipping minister Shajahan Khan in a case filed over the killing of Abdul Motalib, 14, in Dhanmandi, Dhaka during the recent student-led mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order as police produced Shahjahan before the court after the end of his two out of seven-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of the probe.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed on September 6 had placed Shajahan Khan, also Awami League presidium member, on a seven-day remand in the case. Khan was arrested from the capital's Dhanmandi area on September 5.
Abdul Motalib joined a procession in the capital鈥檚 Dhanmandi area on August 4. He was shot when the police opened fire on the procession.
Motalib鈥檚 father Abdul Matin filed the case with Dhanmandi police station against 176, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Shajahan Khan.
