Theatre activists on Saturday demanded an art-friendly Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and democratic reforms of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation to ensure the development of the theatre practice in the country.
Bikhubdho Theatrekormigon organsied an event titled Open View Exchange Meeting of theatre activists to open the BSA and give an outline for future theatre practice after the student-led mass uprising at Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity.
They also placed their demands related to policy and technical problems of the academy for an inclusive theatre practice in the country. Â
‘Repairing and rebuilding the light-sound system of the auditoriums of the BSA around the country, policy of hall allocations, and erasing discrimination from the BSA,’ said Mohammad Ali Haider while reading their observations about the BSA on behalf of the platform.
‘Our observations have not been finalised but we are discussing what we can expect from the BSA as cultural activists. We want to implement democratic reforms in the BGTF and other cultural forums to ensure a discrimination-free artist community. We have organised the event to collect theatre activists’ comments, proposals and ideas for future theatre practice of the country after the student-led mass uprising,’ he added.
Ritu Sattar and Nahid Smrity read the comments on issues sent by theatre activists from outside Dhaka and aboard.
Besides, theatre activists from different theatre troupes’ shared views to make a discrimination-free theatre practice in the country.    Â
