Shakib Al Hasan has made a comeback to county cricket in England after 2013, as he made his debut for Surrey during their Championship match against Somerset in Division One that started in Taunton on Monday.

Shakib, who played previously for two county teams—Worcestershire and Leicestershire (only T20s), took 1-60 runs in his first 23 overs. He bowled Tom Abell for 49 in his 22nd over of the innings with a beautiful sliding delivery.

Surrey, who are currently at the top of the table and on a third straight title run, roped in Shakib for this match since eight of their players were involved in the England Test and T20 squads.

Their Indian recruit, Sai Sudharsan, also had returned to country.

‘When the opportunity to bring a player of the quality of Shakib to the club came along, it was an easy decision to make,’ said Alec Stewart, the director of men’s cricket at Surrey.

‘Shakib brings a wealth of experience and outstanding skill with bat and ball, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey.’

Shakib, who went directly to London after the completion of the Pakistan series, said, ‘Surrey are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, and I am pleased to get the chance to represent the club. I’m coming here to have an impact and help the team achieve their goals for the season.’
