Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad

Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, internal medicine department chairman of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, has been appointed as pro-vice-chancellor (administration) of the university.

He was made a pro-VC of the university for the next four years on Thursday, said a BSMMU press release.


A renowned medicine specialist, Professor Abul Kalam Azad obtained his bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from Sher-E-Bangla Medical College with the highest marks.

He earned the FCPS degree in medicine in 2001. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Edinburgh and the Royal College of London.

Professor Azad has served as member of the American College of Physicians, the IRB of the BSMMU and Bangladesh Society of Medicine, Bangladesh Society of Emergency Medicine.

He is a life member of Bangladesh Medical Association, Association of Physicians of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Society of Medicine, and Bangladesh Rheumatology Society. He has served as former joint secretary of the BCPS faculty of medicine.

Abul Kalam Azad has more than 60 publications in various journals of the country and abroad.
