
The Northern University of Bangladesh has unveiled a memorial plaque on its campus in Dhaka paying tribute to its student Mohammad Asif Hasan killed in the recent Students’ Movement Against Discrimination.
The NUB unveiled the memorial plaque titled Asif Square organising a ceremony, which included a commemorative discussion, on Tuesday, said a press release on Wednesday.
Asif Hasan’s father Mahmud Alam, along with his mother, brother, aunt, and the interim government’s adviser to the posts, telecommunications and information technology, and information and broadcasting ministry Mohammad Nahid Islam, chairman of the NUB trust Professor Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, the NUB vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, and trustee board members, the university registrar, central coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement Nusrat Tbassum, Asad bin Roni, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement in private universities, among others, were present at the event.
Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah acknowledged the pivotal role played by students from private universities in propelling the anti-discrimination student movement forward, reassuring that the university administration had consistently supported the students and would continue to cover the medical expenses of the injured.
