Bangladesh men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 chess teams made a good start in the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad by defeating their respective rivals in the first round in Budapest, Hungary, on Wednesday.

Bangladesh men鈥檚 team beat Lesotho by 4-0 points in the open section, while their women鈥檚 team won against Saint Lucia by the same margin.


In the open section, Grandmaster Niaz Murshed defeated Karabo Mokete, Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib beat Tsephe Lebajoa, international master Fahad Rahman beat Khalema Sechaba, and FIDE master Manon Reja Neer beat Thabang Mphane.

In the women鈥檚 section, WFM Noshin Anjum, WCM Walijah Ahmed, WCM Nusrat Jahan Alo, and WFM Wadifa Ahmed won against Liu Mila, Wahid Chelsea, James Vemesa, and Richards Trisann of Saint Lucia, respectively.

A total of 178 teams from 176 countries are taking part in the open section, while 163 teams from 161 countries are participating in the women鈥檚 section of the 11-round Swiss-League format competition.

On Thursday, the Bangladesh men鈥檚 team will face Vietnam in the open section, while the Bangladesh women鈥檚 team will take on Romania.
