The Bangladesh Hindu Parishad on Friday blocked Shahbagh in the capital for over two hours to press its eight-point demands, including halting ongoing repression on religious minorities and ensuring their proper compensation.聽

The BHP called on the interim government to meet their demands immediately and make the country free of discrimination.聽


The blockade started at 4:00pm.

The BHP general secretary, Sumon Kumar Roy, announced a torch procession event in the capital鈥檚 Shaheed Minar on September 20 at the blockade, which started at 4:00pm.

Their other demands included holding separate elections to ensure representation of religious minorities in the parliament, forming a ministry for religious minorities and creating a Speedy Trial Tribunal to ensure their protection, introducing a Minority Protection Act, and declaring three days of government vacation for Durga Puja.

They also demanded repealing the Vested Property Act and returning grabbed land to its owners and establishing separate worship place and hostels in every public university for religious minorities.聽
