At least one Bangladesh Nationalist Party volunteer wing Swechchhasebak Dal central leader was killed and 22 others were injured as Awami League activists launched an attack on Swechchhasebak Dal central president SM Jilani’s motorcade at Gunapara crossing under Sadar upazila in Gopalganj Friday afternoon.

The victim is Swechchhasebak Dal central committee sports affairs secretary Md Shaukat Ali Didar.


SM Jilani, his wife Gopalganj Mahila Dal president Raushan Ara Ratna and their two sons, among others, were also injured in the attack that took place at about 5:30pm while the motorcade was on the way to Tungipara.

Gopalganj Sadar police officer-in-charge Md Anisur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Saturday that no case or complaint was lodged so far in this connection.

The police officer said that although BNP activists alleged that 10 vehicles were vandalised, but the police found four on the spot.

‘We have already handed over the body to the family after autopsy,’ he added.

BNP claimed that the attack was launched by Awami League activists in Gopalganj.
