The committees of the Democratic Student Force have been dissolved, and all activities of the organisation have been suspended.
The announcement was made on Saturday on its official Facebook page.
Several key coordinators including Hasnat Abdullah, Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, Nusrat Tabassum , Hasib Al Islam of the Student Movement Against Discrimination were involved in DSF politics.
Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, two advisers to the interim government, were in charge of these committees.
Nahid was the secretary general of the central committee while Asif was the coordinator of the Dhaka University unit.
When asked about the matter, the organisation’s convener, Akhter Hossen, said that since the start of the anti-discrimination student movement, the organisation’s leaders and workers had participated in and integrated with this movement.
‘As the movement began, Gonotantrik Chhatra Shakti was not active under its own name,’ he said.
Akhter further said, ‘We have decided to dissolve the organisation’s committees and suspend its activities. Meanwhile, I am serving as the secretary of the Jatiya Nagarik Committee.’
The future activities of the organisation will depend on the pattern of student politics, he added.
Earlier on October 4, 2023, the DSF was officially launched in front of the Dhaka University Central Students Union at Dhaka University.
On that day, a 21-member central convening committee was announced, with Asif Mahmud as the convener and Abu Baker Majumdar as the member secretary.
