Two passengers of a battery-run auto-rickshaw were killed and seven others, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were injured after a bus crashed into their vehicle in Pabna on Sunday morning, said the police.

The accident occurred on Sunday around 11:00am in Sahapur area on the Pabna-Ishwardi Highway.


The deceased were identified as Shimul Hossain, 32, son of late Abdul Jalil of Sahapur Jashodal village of Pabna Sadar Upazila and Safar Ali, 35, son of deceased Altaf Hossain of Islam Ganti Bhatapara village of the same upazila.

The injured are Hamidul Islam, Rezaul Karim, Shariful Islam, Ismail Hossain, Haresh Ali, Rabiul Islam and Abdul Aziz.

Rowshan Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station said, a battery-powered auto-rickshaw was going from Ishwardi鈥檚 Dashuria to Pabna鈥檚 Tebunia with passengers. When it reached at Sahapur area, an Ishwardi-bound bus of Sabbir Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving all people boarding the auto-rickshaw injured.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Pabna General Hospital where Shimul and Safar succumbed to their injuries upon arrival.

As the condition of four of the injured is critical, they have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and the remaining three to Pabna General Hospital, added the OC.

On information, police inspected the spot, he said, adding that the driver fled with the bus.
