The forest department on Monday managed to recover its land allegedly occupied by former agriculture minister Abdus Shahid.

Shahid, also former chief whip, allegedly occupied more than five acres of land in Lawachara National Park area at Kamalganj in Moulvibazar.


The forest department conducted an operation to reclaim the land in front of the student hostel of Lawachara National Park with 131 workers.

According to the forest department, the land had been occupied by Abdus Shahid. Since 2018 and the department failed to reclaim the land despite several initiatives.

Sylhet divisional forest officer of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Jahangir Alam, assistant conservator of forest Jamil Mohammad Khan, range officer Shahidul Islam and others took part in the operation.

Jahangir Alam said, ‘We have reclaimed the land. There were lemon trees at places and some places were empty. We have planted saplings suitable for wildlife in those areas.’
