The 53rd anniversary of the death of freedom fighter Nazrul Islam was observed on Wednesday.

Marking the day, widow of the martyr, Professor Hazera Nazrul, arranged a Qur’an khwani and prayer session in Dhaka.


A commemorative book ‘Muktijuddha O Shaheed Prakoushali Nazrul Islam,’ edited by Hazera Nazrul, was also published on the occasion.

Nazrul Islam conducted an operation to blow up five power stations in Dhaka during the War of Independence.

He went to Agartala and was appointed as an adviser for electrical and power matters to the then newly formed Bangladesh government in July 1971.

He met his martyrdom on September 18, 1971.

The Hatkhola road was officially named after him after the independence of the country and Shaheed Nazrul Girls’ School was established in Shariatpur.
