The government on Wednesday appointed vice-chancellors to six public universities.
The universities are Chittagong University, Jagannath University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University and Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.
Among these universities, the vice-chancellor to Chittagong University has been appointed on a temporary basis.
Same day the government also appointed other senior officials to different public universities.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry issued 11 separate circulars in this regard on Wednesday.
Professor Muhammad Yahia Akhtar, a retired professor from the department of political science at Chittagong University, has been appointed as the acting vice-chancellor to the university, said an education ministry circular issued on Wednesday.
Professor Md Rezaul Karim, a retired professor of the social work department at Jagannath University in Dhaka, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor to the university for the next four years.
Professor AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury of the applied chemistry and chemical engineering department of Dhaka University has been appointed as the vice-chancellor to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet for the next four years.
Professor Md Anwarul Azim Akhand of the department of genetic engineering and biotechnology at Dhaka University has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Sirajganj for the next four years.
Md Jahangir Alam, a professor of the sociology department of Dhaka University, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor to Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University in Mymensingh for the next four years.
Md Showkat Ali, a professor of the applied mathematics department of Dhaka University, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor to Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur for the next four years.
The government also appointed professor Sohel Ahmed of biochemistry and molecular biology department at Jahangirnagar University as pro-vice-chancellor for administrative affairs, professor Mahfuzur Rahman of the botany department of the same university as pro-vice-chancellor for academic affairs and professor Abdur Rab of mathematics department of the same university as the treasurer to the university.
The government also appointed professor Md Shajedul Karim of the mathematics department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology as the pro-vice-chancellor and professor Md Ismail Hossain of the social work department of the same university as the treasurer to the university.
