The bowlers fought hard, but a reckless batting display in the first innings has put Bangladesh on the back foot on the second day of the first Test against India in Chennai on Friday.聽聽
In reply to India鈥檚 376 runs, Bangladesh got all out for just 149 runs to find themselves in the follow-on position.
But India didn鈥檛 enforce that though and extended the lead to 308 runs with seven wickets in hand by the end of the day.聽
Both the Indian openers started the second innings with attacking intent, but fell soon. Rohit Sharma was caught at slip for the second time in the match, this time off Taskin Ahmed.
Yashashvi Jaiswal was undone by Nahid Rana鈥檚 sheer pace.聽
Virat Kohli was getting comfortable until he was trapped lbw after missing a full ball off Mehidy.
He opted not to review, though the ultra-edge showed a spike, meaning he would have survived had he reviewed it.聽
Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten for 33, saw the day out with Rishabh Pant batting on 12.聽
The Tigers, who were hurt by a late onslaught by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who added 199 runs for the seventh wicket, began the day positively.
They took the new ball as soon as it was available, and India managed to add 37 runs with the remaining four wickets.聽
Taskin, who had been struggling with lengths on the first day, took three of them. Hasan Mahmud, who finished with figures of 5-83 after rattling the Indian batting on day one, dismissed Jasprit Bumrah to bag his second consecutive five-fer in just his fourth Test.
He also became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-fer on Indian soil.聽
Ashwin and Jadeja resumed with India on 339-6 overnight, but Taskin broke the stand early, with Jadeja caught behind without adding to his overnight score of 86.
Taskin kept striking and got his third with the wicket of hometown hero Ashwin, caught by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto.
The 38-year-old Ashwin was given a standing ovation after his sixth Test ton, which included 10 fours and two sixes.
But the Bangladeshi batters could not cope with the world-class bowling of Bumrah and company on a flat Chidambaram wicket.
Bangladesh lost their first three wickets for just 22 runs, with Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, and Mominul Haque all being bowled with Akash Deep was on a hat-trick after dismissing the latter two in consecutive deliveries.聽
Najmul Hossain Shanto was showing some intent but edged behind off Siraj. Mushfiqur Rahim was the victim of a Bumrah special as he was caught at slip.聽
Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das then added the only fifty-run partnership of the innings, but both fell off Jadeja鈥檚 consecutive overs within one run.聽
Liton went for a slog sweep only to miscue it to the hands of the long-leg fielder. Shakib paid the price for an untimely reverse sweep that was caught by Pant after deflecting off the boot.聽
Mehidy then added 57 runs with the tailenders but could not drag the Tigers to the 150-run mark.聽
