Political leaders and cultural activists at a roundtable in Dhaka on Friday said that cultural activists must work for the improvement of the country’s politics for bringing positive change.

They made the urge at the discussion titled Chatra Janatar Ganaabhyutthan 2024: Janaakankha, Sangkat O Sambhabana organised by Bangladesh Sansgkritikkarmi Sangha at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital.


They also said that all political parties, social and cultural organisations needed national consensus on reforming the country.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Selima Rahman, Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Zonayed Saki, general secretary of Bibartan Sangskritik Kendra Mofijur Rahman Laltu, Udichi vice-president Jamshed Anwar Tapan, among others, spoke at the discussion, which was moderated by general secretary of Bangladesh Sangskritikkarmi Sangha Khandakar Shah Alam and chaired by its acting president AMM asanuzzaman.

Zonayed Saki said that fascism had created discrimination in the society, which was revealed after the student-led mass uprising. ‘But, the interim government cannot avoid their responsibility to control the law and justice in the name of conspiracy.’

He also mentioned that cultural activists must work against hatred in the country.

Political parties have no research about the people of the country, especially on the youth, while the interim government has no political reading. So, we have to be aware of the government, mentioned Mahmudur Rahman Manna.

Pointing out that cultural activists must work to improve the political culture of the country, Selima Rahman said, ‘They have to create a narrative of the student-led mass uprising.’
