
Hindu people of the country on Friday in the capital brought out a torch procession to press home their eight-point demands, including the extension of Durga Puja holiday, and the trial of those involved in sectarian violence.
The procession began at the Central Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University, and ended at the Ramna Kali Temple.
They chanted slogans raising question that why their temples were attacked, and protested against fundamentalism at the procession.
Himel Dhar, a protester, said, ‘Our eight-point demands include speedy trial tribunals in cases of attacks on “minorities” after the fall of the government, compensation and rehabilitation of those affected by sectarian violence, enactment of minority protection law, and formation of minority affairs ministry.’
The demands also included enactment of the Debottar Property Recovery and Preservation Act, proper implementation of the Vested Property Restitution Act, and a five-day public holiday for Durga Puja.
