A newly enrolled student of Rajshahi University lodged a written complaint against two senior fellows allegedly for intimidating and harassing him mentally on Sunday night.
The victim, Mohammad Rocky, a first-year student of philosophy department, lodged the complaint to the proctor on Monday evening, accusing marketing department final-year student Antor Biswas and second-year student Nazmul Hasan Nabil.
Rocky, Antor, and Nabil are residents of Biswas Mansion, a rented mess in the Lebubagan area, adjacent to the university.
According to the complaint, Antor and Navil entered Rocky鈥檚 room at the mess at 11:45pm on Sunday and started asking various embarrassing questions.
鈥楢t one stage, they said that they would take me to the guest room of a residential hall and give me a warm welcome there,鈥� Rocky mentioned, adding that the accused had also asked him to contact his mother over the phone for the last time in his life.
鈥楥ontact your mother for the last time. Make a call and tell her that you may never see each other again. Seek pardon from her. Say, forgive me mother if I have done anything wrong in my life,鈥� he quoted.
In the complaint, Rocky also alleged that the senior fellows also intimidated him saying, 鈥楧o you know how Abrar Fahad died? What will you do if we beat you like the incident?鈥�
Rocky also alleged that the accused repeatedly asked him to go to the guest room of the hall.
鈥榃hen I refused to go, they threatened that they would bring Shibir men to the mess and get me beaten by them鈥�, he alleged, adding that the accused left his room at 1:30am on Monday stating that they would have a party with him on October 8.
Contacted, accused Nazmul Hasan Nabil said that Antor Biswas took him to meet Rocky鈥檚 room on Sunday night against his will. 鈥榃e did not do anything wrong with Rocky in that night but had some fun鈥�, he claimed.
鈥楾he incident of Abrar Fahad, however, was mentioned in that night as an example of ragging. We assured Rocky that no ragging or fighting not allowed on RU campus. We also asked him to inform us if anyone harasses him,鈥� Nabil added.
Echoing Nabil, Antor Biswas said that they just casually met with Rocky in that night. 鈥楤ut it was not the way Rocky had presented. Our aim was to build a relation with him. But I did not assume that the matter would go so far,鈥� he said.
In a reply, Antor denied the allegation of bringing Shibir men to the mess and beat Rocky.
Mentioning the incident of harassing Rocky a very sad one, RU proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman said that they had asked the marketing department to hold a meeting of the academic committee and took a decision in this regard.
鈥楢fter the marketing department submits its recommendation, we will take stern actions against the accused in the university鈥檚 disciplinary committee meeting,鈥� he said.
