A case has been filed against a man in Chattogram allegedly for insulting the Quran and posting a social media video where the interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus and information adviser Nahid Islam were disgraced.

The complaint was lodged by Md Saifuddin, joint convener of Fatikchari upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, with the Chattogram Cyber Tribunal, said Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, public prosecutor of the cyber tribunal.


He said, the court has accepted the case, filed under the Cyber Security Act, 2023, and directed the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate and submit a report by November 27.

The accused, identified as Moktar Hossain, 52, son of the late Delowar Hossain, hails from west Nanupur village in Fatikchari upazila in Chattogram.

Moktar could not be reached over phone for comment.

According to the case statement, on August 15, Moktar allegedly posted a video on his Facebook ID, ‘MD Hassan,’ that lasted 7 minutes and 37 seconds. He has been accused of making derogatory comments about the Quran in his 34-second remark.

The video also allegedly contains verbal abuse directed at Muhammad Yunus for 1 minute and 42 seconds, insults to students of the anti-discrimination movement for 1 minute and 57 seconds, and vulgar remarks about Nahid Islam for 2 minutes and 34 seconds.
