Veteran sports journalist Aghore Mondal passed away at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the city on Wednesday.

He was 58.

Aghore left behind his wife, two daughters, and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.

He had been suffering from kidney and coronary disease for a long time and underwent treatment at the BSMMU for 20 days.

He was released from the hospital early this month but was again admitted to the same hospital after he was diagnosed with dengue. He was on life support for more than a week since then as his condition deteriorated.

Aghore, who had worked for various national dailies and television networks over the course of his three-decade career, was serving as sports in-charge at ATN News when he died.

Before, he had worked for a number of Bengali dailies, including Bhorer Kagoj, Ajker Kagoj, Janmabhumi, and Lal Sabuj, as well as Deepto TV and Channel i.

Aghore also served as the acting vice-president of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association for a short period.

His body was carried at his last workplace, ATN News, Captain Mansur Ali Handball Stadium, and Dhaka Reporters Unity premises, respectively, to pay final respect.

Later he was taken to his residence in the city's Hatirpool area before being cremated at the Postogola Crematorium on Wednesday night.

The Bangladesh Football Federation, BSJA, Bangladesh Sports Press Association, and several other journalists and sports organisations condoled his death through media releases.
