Two cases were filed with the Chakaria police station on Wednesday and six people were arrested in connection with murder of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon at Chakaraia upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

Bangladesh Army revealed the identities of the six people on Wednesday as they detained them early Tuesday from Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar for their involvement in the killing.


The arrested are Babul Prokash, 44, Helal Uddin, 34, Anowar Hakim, 28, Arif Ullah, 25, Ziabul Karim, 45, and Md Hossain, 39, the Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed the matter in a press release on Wednesday evening.

Confirming the matter of case and arrest, Chakaria police officer-in-charge Manjur Kader Bhuiyan said that the Bangladesh Army filed a case over robbery and murder while police filed a case for possessing illegal arms.

‘The army handed over the accused to them,’ the OC added.

The Cox’s Bazar superintendent of police, Md Rahmat Ullah, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were producing them before the court.  

‘We detained the accused in a joint drive. But they were in army custody,’ the SP told.

The ISPR release said that the army recovered two local firearms, 11 rounds of different types of ammunition, a knife used for the killing, a pick-up, and a motorbike, said the press release.

Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon, 23, was stabbed to death by suspected robbers during a drive in the Purba Maizpara area under Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar district early Tuesday.

ISPR claimed the accused confessed their involvement in the murder of Nirjon in a preliminary interrogation.

ISPR in its press release said that the army continued the operation to arrest other members of the robbery group.
