
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh detained two allegedly drunken Indian nationals as they entered Bangladesh territory breaking through two gates with a pick-up van at Bhomra land port in Satkhira.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday and it caused damages to an integrated checkpoint, a crossing gate, a checkpoint gate, three road dividers, a motorcycle and an easy bike, said a BGB press release issued on Saturday.
The detained are driver Prokash Sarkar, 39, and his assistant Dilu Sarkar, 20, both of whom hail from Gourangonagar village in Uttar 24 Pargana district of West Bengal.
On interrogation, the two people started taking nonsense, the release said, adding that when they got back their sense, they revealed their identities as Indian nationals.
The BGB strongly protested at the incident at a commander-level meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh and Indian Border Security Force in India at about 1:30am.
BSF officials felt sorry for the incident at the meeting, the press release said.
‘Two drunken individuals entered Bangladesh after damaging three to four easy bikes and two ICP gates in India,’ BGB press release quoted BSF officials as saying at the meeting.
BGB 33 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque said that they had handed over them to the Satkhira Sadar police station.
Sathkria Sadar police officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said that BGB filed a case against the two people for trespassing illegally.
‘We have produced them before court and they have been sent to jail through the court order,’ the OC added.
On Wednesday night, BGB detained an Indian national as he entered Bangladesh territory illegally through the Bagbhander area along the bordering Lalmonirhat district.
On Tuesday, a member of India’s Border Security Force was detained by the BGB after he allegedly crossed into the Bangladesh territory illegally at the Pirganj border in Thakurgaon.
Upakumar Das, 32, a member of Gouripur Camp under BSF Battalion-63, was handed over to the BSF after holding a flag meeting hours after he was detained.
