Inspector general of police Md Mainul Islam on Saturday urged everyone to abide by the law, saying that mob justice in no way was acceptable.
He sought cooperation from the country people to stop recurrence of the incidents of mob justice or lynching.
IGP Md Mainul Islam was exchanging views with the journalists at Chattogram metropolitan police headquarters in the evening.
Referring to the incidents occurred on Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University campuses, the IGP said that anyone, committed any crime, should be handed over to the law enforcing agencies.
‘In no way, one can take the law in their own hands,’ he added.
IGP assured that every murder would be properly investigated through the fact finding committee.
He said that communal harmony would be protected in the country with strong hand and none would be allowed to destroy social peace.
Terming Bangladesh a shining example of communal harmony, the IGP said that Bangladesh police was committed to ensuring the overall security of all citizens, including minority communities.
‘There is no reason of fear if name of an innocent person or journalist is included in the FIR of a case,’ the police chief said.Â
Mainul Islam noted that many police personnel had also been accused in many cases, saying that necessary directives were given to verify the authenticity before registering a case with police station.
‘If someone is really involved, he can be arrested. If an innocent person is accused, it will be verified,’ he said adding, ‘So there is no reason to be afraid of it.’
Director general of Rapid Action Battalion AKM Shahidur Rahman, commissioner of Chattogram metropolitan police Hasib Aziz and senior police officials were present.
