A case was filed on Monday against former Bangladesh skipper and former Awami League lawmaker Mashrafe Bin Mortaza allegedly for 'forcibly taking over shares' of Bangladesh Premier League team Sylhet Strikers.

United States expatriate Sarowar Golam Chowdhury filed the case with Pallabi police station accusing six people including Mashrafe.

Besides, 10-15 unidentified people were also made accused in the case. Sarowar was the chairman of the franchise.

He accused the former national cricket team captain Mashrafe and five others of forcibly taking over shares worth Tk 4.5 crore in 2023.

Instead of paying the money for the shares, Mashrafe and his men allegedly gave Sarowar death threats, according to the case statement.

Cricketer turned politician Mashrafe joined the AL and won in parliamentary election with highest votes at his constituency, Narail-2, in December 2018. He was re-elected from the constituency in the 12th national polls in 2024.
