Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit has frozen the bank accounts of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul and nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby in connection with the Awami League’s think-tank Centre for Research and Information.
The BFIU on Monday directed all banks and financial institutions to freeze transactions linked to these accounts.
Joy serves as chairperson of CRI, Putul as vice chairman and Bobby as trustee.
BFIU also froze former minister Nasrul Hamid Bipu’s bank accounts. He was also a trustee of the institute.
CRI became visible in the year 2010 while implementing various agendas of the party and formation of public opinion.
In 2014, an organisation called ‘Young Bangla’ was established.
The ‘Joy Bangla Youth Award’ was launched under the supervision of CRI at the youth entrepreneur and institutional level and the ‘Joy Bangla Concert’ was organised centering on Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech.
Recently, a list of CRI payments to 8 journalists went viral on social media.
