A female inmate died after falling sick in Kashimpur Jail of Gazipur on Wednesday.

The deceased, Anita Rani Barman, 60, was accused in a Women and Children Repression Prevention Act case, said Nahida Parvin, Kashimpur Jail superintendent.


Hailed from Bottulahati area under Raipura in Narsingdi, Anita used to live at Dakshinkhan area in Dhaka.

Nahida said that Anita was shifted to Kashimpur female jail on September 14 after being arrested under the case filed with the Dakshinkhan police station.

She was suffering from different diseases and fell sick in the jail in the early hours of Wednesday, the jail superintendent added, mentioning that she was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead around 2:15am.

The body was handed over to the family members after legal procedures, the jail superintendent said.
